Our Primary Montessori children went on an exciting visit to a pottery craft centre on 10th October 2025. The instructor demonstrated how raw mud is collected and softened by hitting it, then strained to remove impurities. It is then mixed with water and left for a few minutes to become smooth and workable. The softened mud is placed into a machine that turns it into fine clay, ready to be used for making idols, pots, and other clay items. The children observed how the clay is placed on the potter’s wheel and how different shapes can be formed by skillfully using hands while the wheel spins. The instructor also showed them an old oven used for baking the clay items after they dry, which makes them strong and durable. He explained that these baked clay products can be used for making flower vases, storing drinking water, and even for cooking. The children learned that clay is one of the earliest and most important inventions of human civilization.
