The Primary Montessori team hosted a Language workshop on 11 October 25, that aimed to provide parents an insight into how language unfolds naturally through carefully designed Montessori materials and everyday interactions in the classroom.
The workshop began by highlighting how spoken language, forms the base for all later reading and writing skills. Teachers demonstrated activities that help children build vocabulary and expression, such as classified picture cards, object-naming exercises, story-telling, sound games, and conversation time. Participants then explored the progression from spoken language to written language through Sandpaper Letters, Moveable Alphabets, materials that help children connect sounds with symbols, develop fine motor control, and express their thoughts in written form.
The workshop also emphasized the importance of songs, rhymes, and reading opportunities to nurture a love for language.
Parents were encouraged to support this development at home through meaningful conversations, reading aloud, and providing real experiences that expand vocabulary.
